"Reading For A Change!" was recently held at the elementary school with students bringing in $1,319.16 worth of change for the fundraiser. The money raised goes toward the purchase of books for the "Terisa Ward Reading Challenge" held every spring. The Challenge was started in the memory of Terisa Ward, a former Houston reading teacher, with the hope to make students aware of how important it is to read.
The room with the most money donated, based on a per-student ratio, won a pizza and ice cream party. Second and third place classes each won an ice cream party.
Mrs. Williams' first grade class won the competition with an average of $11.59 per student. Mrs. Tottingham's third grade class brought in an average of $8.09 per student to finish second, and Mrs. Curry's kindergarten class came in third with an average of $7.95 per student.
The Ward family thanks all the students and teachers who participated, as well as Mrs. Jarrett and Dr. Copley for their support. A special thank you to Pizza Hut of Houston and Miller's Grill for their donations.
