We are excited to announce the 2024-25 teachers of the year at the Houston R-1 School District: Tina Sutton (elementary), Kathy Bradshaw (middle school) and Randi Wilson (high school). The certified staff member of the year is Wanda Ichord (elementary).
Wilson was also announced as the district's teacher of the year. She teaches high school science.
"Mrs. Wilson sets the standard for teachers everywhere. She sets high standards for students but also provides the support they need to achieve their goals," said HHS Principal Amanda Munson. "Year after year her students perform high on the Biology EOC, above state average and oftentimes, at the top of the SCA comparison charts. Mrs. Wilson also is a supporter of all students and a great builder of relationships. Not only is Mrs. Wilson great for kids, she is a vital member of our HHS team. She serves as the Building Specialists which means she mentors, supports, and assists our beginning teachers. However, I have seen more times than I can mention, her ability and willingness to mentor all teachers, even our more experienced classroom teachers. Mrs. Wilson will be found at many and various events in an effort to support all students and faithfully serves in leadership roles, serving on various committees, the building leadership team, and the district's leadership team. Mrs. Wilson is our Teacher of the Year because she comes to work everyday, striving to get better and make others better. We are extremely grateful that Mrs. Wilson is a part of the HHS team. "
Mrs. Sutton is a preschool teacher in the Early Childhood Center.
"Mrs. Sutton believes that all of her students are capable of great things and she will find a way for every student to learn in her class," said Elementary Principal Jody Jarrett. "Mrs. Sutton creates an environment that is supportive, yet challenging, and the learning that takes place in her classroom is visible. Mrs. Sutton is not satisfied with average and will do whatever it takes to make sure her students exceed expectations. She is always looking for opportunities to learn new things and expand her knowledge of teaching. She is also the first to offer support and assistance to her peers and is always willing to share ideas and resources. Mrs. Sutton is one of a kind and I am proud to work alongside her everyday!"
Mrs. Bradshaw is a middle school English teacher.
"Mrs. Bradshaw is a truly exceptional educator and a natural leader in our school community. Her dedication to her students is unmatched, always going above and beyond to ensure each child’s success and well-being," said HMS Principal Tracy Hughes. "She has a unique ability to connect with her students, fostering an environment where they not only respect her but also feel inspired and empowered. As a building leader, she leads by example, working tirelessly to implement strategies and initiatives that benefit the entire school. Her commitment to doing what’s best for kids, coupled with her passion for education, is why she has earned the well-deserved honor of being voted Middle School Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Bradshaw's unwavering devotion to her students and the school community sets her apart as a true role model."
Ichord is the elementary's administrative assistant.
"It is difficult to find the words to express how essential Wanda is to the elementary school," Jarrett said. "Wanda is always professional, she helps anyone who needs it, and she cares about all our students and staff. She makes everyday a good day with her positive attitude and sense of humor. She is one of a kind and we love her!"
