STATEMENT FROM HOUSTON SCHOOLS
November 8, 2022
This afternoon, the carbon monoxide detectors went off in the welding shop on campus. Students were evacuated from the space and adjacent classrooms immediately, and our staff notified authorities. The City of Houston Fire Department responded and assessed the levels of the shop and surrounding areas. Based on the assessment from Chief Smith, there was no impact to the students’ health and well-being. Chief Smith will be conducting a walk-through of the facility Wednesday morning to ensure there are no residual issues in this space.
The safety of our students is a top priority. We are grateful all safety devices and responses worked flawlessly. We are also grateful for the quick response and aid of local authorities.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Justin Copley, Superintendent, or Mrs. Amanda Munson, High School Principal.
